Japan requests limited foreign aid as of March 13.
A list of established charities that are providing relief for Japan along with tips for donating. Of my regular charities Doctors with Borders is currently over in Japan providing medical assistance, and the American Red Cross is providing shelter and medical aid on our own west coast and financial aid to support Japan's efforts. The list is on Charity Navigator so you can do some research before you donate and see which organizations are reputable and where efforts are actually directed.
