So this started as a polka dot lolita skirt but once I decided to add the ric rac it turned into a 50's housewife number, but I love it anyway. I'll try and get some real photos of it (or me in it) at some point, especially because it has an adorable matching hairbow.

And a quick shot of the sewing process because I love all the little details (especially the pockets)
It is adorable. How did you make it? I've always wanted something similar, but I haven't a clue how to go about making one. Thank you and best wishes.
ReplyDeleteThe basic skirt is just a 82" rectangle gathered into a folded over waistband, though you could also use a circle skirt pattern. The pockets and buttons are reinforced with the interfacing and them hemmed, trimmed with ric rac and straight stitched onto the fabric.
ReplyDeleteIf you're a beginning seamstress, maybe try a pattern like: http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6289-products-13592.php?page_id=113. For a more retro look just shorten the waistband so it sits at your natural waist (the smallest part), and make the skirt more full by lengthening to a 82x23 piece.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLove Polka Dots! Very cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea! I'll have to wear it again sometime soon you can see it in person :P

ReplyDeleteJust lovely * - * !!!
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteSorry to bug you, but I help moderate EGL and its sister communities. I had a couple of questions to ask about the Lolita Handbook, and I was wondering what the best way to get in touch with you about it would be!
